In May/June 2018 Matthew toured a new production of Human Cargo, with Jeff Warner.


Matthew recently co-adapted and performed The Transports with folk musicians The Young’uns, Faustus, Nancy Kerr, Rachael McShane and Greg Russell. Matthew wrote new narration to link this famous story of 18 century convict transportation with modern issues around migration. The show got full houses and standing ovations nationwide - and Five Stars in The Guardian. The Transports album has received excellent reviews.


His other books include The Trebor Story and Tales from the Angler’s Retreat. Previously, he worked as a speechwriter in London and Hong Kong.


Matthew is known in folk clubs for performing traditional songs, monologues and music hall classics. He has a comic double-act with David Eagle of The Young’uns called Muddling Through.


His political activities include work with No Glory, a campaign dedicated to ensuring that the centenary of World War One does not glorify that needless conflict.
